The acoustic duo Janet Humphrey and Mary Hartman have been described as the
harmonic equivalent of peanut butter and jelly; distinctly different and perfectly complementary. Playing guitars, banjo and resophonic guitar, their original songs and intricate harmonies have been enticing audiences across the Northwest. Janet and Mary, both performers in their own right, joined forces in the mid 90's. Strong vocals and tight harmonies are the signature of their high energy performances. Playing primarily original material, Janet and Mary's writing styles are diverse; their lyrics are gloriously unique and wrapped in silky harmony. |

Mary's music can be classified as folk with a
touch of jazz; blues with just a splash of country. Her songs are full of images of nature... the earthy kind and the human kind. In 1992 she was a finalist in the Columbia Music Festival's songwriting competition sponsored by the Kerrville Music Foundation and Sing Out! magazine. One of Mary's songs "Zamboni" was selected by Garrison Keillor as one of the best Christmas songs of 1989. Hailing from the midwest; Mary is anything but "hotdish bland". |
|
Janet is a transplanted easterner, raised on
peace marches and picket signs. Her writing style reflects her diverse musical background. Degreed in theory and composition, she's done commercial arranging, fronted a six man jugband and taught fingerstyle guitar. Her love of blues is reflected in her original songs. Janet's lyric topics run the gamut from historical ballads that explore the human condition to whimsical blues about the mundane. |
